How Long Does it Take to Integrate Primitive Reflexes?

How Long Does it Take to Integrate Primitive Reflexes?

One of the most common questions I get is how long does it take to integrate retained primitive reflexes?

The answer is complex.

First, is this a developmental delay? Genetics? An Injury? Not sure?

Next, the Exam -

In the exam, the biggest things that can give you an idea of how long integrate may take are:

  • Muscle tone - low muscle tone will take longer.

  • Amount of primitive - the more retained primitive reflexes an individual has the longer it's going to take.

  • The severity of primitive reflexes- the stronger the retain primitive reflex response the longer it's going to take.

  • Hemispheric deficit- the greater imbalance of Hemispheric development the longer it's going to take.

  • Blood work- anemia, chronic infections, metabolic issues will add to how long it will take to integrate primitive reflexes.

Finally, it depends on what you are doing to integrate to try and integrate the reflexes. Exercises? Other therapies and modalities? Any type of nutrition?

Typically it takes 3 months to a year. Doing an intensive program can sometimes integrate them even faster. Some may take over a year in more severe cases especially if the individual is not consistent with their exercises and/or treatment.
